Quake hits Maluku

Bandarlampung, Lampung - A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck the eastern Indonesian province of Maluku on Sunday, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said.
It said the quake which occurred at 09.02 a.m. was centered 246 km southwest of Saumlaki town at a depth of 119 km.
The quake did not trigger a tsunami warning.
Sunday`s temblor was the latest in a series of moderate quakes that hit the town in the past few months.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
Maluku province lies at the meeting point of the country`s two main chains of volcanoes.
